Crafts are the confluence of age-old techniques kept alive by generations of master artisans, their practiced hands creating every motif with love, care & perseverance. We re-imagine these timeless Indian crafts for the modern woman & work with carriers of the craft who practice & preserve them.
A centuries-old craft form, practiced for over 200 years, the Benarasi weave is handwoven by artisans in Benaras who are the keepers of this heirloom craft. An exquisite & time-honoured craft form, it is handwoven across months to bring alive the flora and fauna of nature through resplendent gold & silver motifs.
Hand-block printed with love, our Ajrakh pieces are crafted by master artisans in Bhuj, Gujarat. It is a rare craft, as very few artisans still create it using an intensive sixteen-step process that takes close to 30 days to complete. With intricate hand-block prints & eco-friendly dyes, Ajrakh is an ode to India’s rich craft heritage.
Bandhani from Gujarat is a resist-dyeing technique that takes shape within the comfort of the artisans’ homes, over weeks and months. Knots are skillfully spaced and tied before the dyeing process to unveil diverse patterns that are both timeless and beautiful.
Nine years ago, we travelled to the heart of Gujarat to meet the wonderful women of SEWA-Self Employed Women’s Association. After their day’s work, they lovingly craft each garment with their skillful flair of hand-embroidery, inherited across generations. The intricate designs on our pieces take our artisans between 25 to 60 days to delicately curate every minute detail. Truly, slow fashion.
Our Pichhwai collection is an ode to the 400-year-old legacy of Pichhwai paintings, a venerable art form inspired by the harmonious co-existence found amidst the inhabitants in nature. We serendipitously stumbled across this historic craft at Jaipur’s City Palace, whilst a local artisan was restoring an ornate ceiling. We imagined the ethereal motifs coming to life on the panels of a lehenga, illustrated stroke by stroke, and archived for generations to come, thus making it our signature craft.
