This dress is a labour of love, hand embroidered by women artisans in the comfort of their home and at their own pace in a remote village of India. This type of embroidery is delicate and artfully done on fine, lightweight fabrics. The fabric is first block printed with intricate designs that serve as an outline. Each design is an amalgamation of multiple embroidery techniques and requires immense skill and extensive practise. It is then further embellished with hand embroidered silver dots.
The fabric takes 45 to 60 days to be handwoven on a traditional handloom, while the embroidery takes 3 to 4 months. This dress travels a total of 1100 miles from one village to another, and finally to our eco-friendly design headquarters in Mumbai. This truly is slow fashion.
Lightweight, regular fit, ankle length, thin shoulder straps, side slits with a gathered waist and deep v-back.
